Where does CHSEL meet? |
A: |
CHSEL meets at Ridgewood Church, 2920 Lake Arthur Dr. in Port Arthur. The Ridgewood church family has graciously allowed us to use the facility and only asks that we care for it as our own. Each family, teacher and administrator will take part in some way in helping maintain the facility in the spirit of a true cooperative, and show our thanks to our gracious host! |
Q: |
How much participation is required? |
A: |
Families may choose their levels of participation based upon their needs and ability to participate each week. The nature of a co-op is such that each family must participate at some level, but is not required that each family teach or assist in teaching. Lab Facilitators are independent contractors who provide quality labs at affordable prices within the structure and venue of CHSEL. Some ways one can participate in CHSEL are: Lab Assistant, Lab Substitute, Lunch Monitor, Service Duty Coordinator, Facility Maintenance, Cleaning the Facility, Lab Facilitator, Event Committees, Library Service, Merchandise Coordinator, Hot Lunch Preparer, and many other ways! CHSEL encourages volunteers to think of ways to grow our community of support and help one another in this fabulous journey called home schooling. |
Q: |
What is the cost to participate? |
A: |
In accordance with the mission of CHSEL, we try to keep lab costs far below that which other organizations charge for similar labs provided outside of the co-op format. We accompish this by participation of every co-op family in the operation of CHSEL. In order to participate in CHSEL, each family must be a member of Lighthouse Homeschool Support . The cost of Lighthouse membership is $40 per year. CHSEL registration is an annual cost of $60, which will be applied over two payments. $30 in the fall semester and $30 in the spring semester. CHSEL labs vary in cost from $20-$40 per lab per student each month. Each lab typically has a one-time supply fee billed at the start of the academic year. Supply fees are billed per student, per lab and are usually between $5 and $30 per lab. The cost of each lab and the supply fee associated with it is listed in the 'Class Matrix' at the start of each academic year. An example of cost for one family with two children where each child is taking 3 labs: First, the family will become a Lighthouse Member for $40. Then they will register for CHSEL for a total of $60 for the academic year. Student A takes Lab 1 and Lab 2 that cost $27 per month. Lab 3 costs $32 per month. Lab 1 has a supply fee of $5, Lab 2 has a supply fee of $20 and Lab 3 has a supply fee of $30. Student B takes Lab 1 that costs $22 per month and Lab 2 and Lab 3 that cost $32 per month. Lab 1 has a supply fee of $0, Lab 2 and Lab 3 have a supply fee of $25. In August the family in this exercise will be invoiced for $175.00. $40 lighthouse membership, $30 CHSEL registration Fee, $55 in supply fees for Student A and $50 in supply fees for Student B. Each month from September - May the family will be invoiced $172. $86 for Student A's Labs and $$86 for Student B's Labs. In January the family will be invoiced the final $30 of the CHSEL Registration Fee. CHSEL provides many opportunities to reduce fees and tuition through contracting as a lab assistant, acting as an occasional substitute for a lab facilitator, tuition credits for volunteer service in administrative tasks, monitor duties, facility maintenance as well as scholarships and fundraising opportunities. There is no limit to ways you can serve and earn credit towards your child's tuition! |
Q: |
Is there a place for volunteers? |
A: |
At Lighthouse Homeschool Support (the parents organization of CHSEL) we always welcome volunteer help. We believe the more you put in, the more your family will receive out of the entire membership experience. Christian Homeschool Enrichment Labs is no exception! The more help we have on lab days and in preparation of the facility before labs begin, the more smoothly things will go for all involved!
